Investors of bankrupt cryptocurrency companies BlockFi and FTX are now targeted by scammers.
BlockFi and FTX’s creditors fell prey to scammers. Cyber attackers using the phishing method via email, stole $5 million worth of crypto NFT in the past 1-week period.
Speaking on the matter, blockchain security expert Plumferno stated that cyber attackers tricked the creditors of bankrupt BlockFi, FTX, and affiliated companies with promises such as “you can collect your repayment via this link.”
Plumferno noted that the creditor email addresses could have been obtained from data stolen from the email service Mailer Lite which was attacked in January.
In the details of the post, Plumferno emphasized that some of these victims may still not realize that they have been defrauded.
The worst part of this fraud is that most of the assets were stolen from inactive wallets. Probably, they are people affected by the BlockFi bankruptcy who have not touched their funds since then. It is also possible that some of these victims are still unaware that they have been defrauded.
